Crawl Space Encapsulation for Historic Church in Ghent, Kentucky
Challenge
This historic church (built in 1846) in Ghent, KY, had a crawl space that was struggling to control moisture. The ducts were dripping with condensation, the wooden framing had softened, and musty smells were emitting into the rest of the building. A Trustee of the church gave us a call to come out and encapsulate the crawl space in order to preserve their beloved church building.
Solution
We started the project by removing all of the debris and sharp objects from the crawl space. We then laid our drainage matting all across the floor of the crawl space to make crawling across the vapor barrier, (that we later installed overtop) more comfortable and durable. We then closed off the vents in the crawl space with our EverLast vent covers to keep unwanted air out. Next, we wrapped the entire space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. Our patented vapor barrier is made of antimicrobial material, and is super durable. Lastly, we finished the project by installing a dehumidifier to condition the air in the space. This project will help preserve the foundation of the historic church, and it will help improve the air quality throughout the rest of the building.
