Step-by-Step Basement Waterproofing and Drywall Repair in Lexington, KY
Challenge
This Lexington, Kentucky home had a finished basement that began showing water damage along the lower walls. The homeowners noticed staining and soft spots in the drywall, and when we inspected the space, we found moisture seeping in where the walls met the floor. The water had been trapped behind the drywall, causing deterioration over time.
To properly waterproof the basement, we needed to remove the damaged drywall and expose the foundation perimeter. This meant cutting out the lower wall sections and trimming the studs about 4 to 5 inches above the floor—necessary steps to install our below-floor drainage system and eliminate the source of the problem once and for all. When we explained to the homeowner that we’d need to tear out their wet drywall to install the system, we also introduced them to the perfect replacement option: our waterproof EverLast Wall Panels. The homeowner loved the idea of having both the waterproofing and wall replacement handled by one company—especially since EverLast panels are completely waterproof and won’t ever need to be replaced due to moisture damage.
Solution
We installed a complete WaterGuard interior drainage system along the basement perimeter to capture any groundwater seepage and direct it toward a new TripleSafe sump pump, which we placed neatly inside a basement closet to keep it out of sight while maintaining easy access. The TripleSafe provides three levels of protection—a powerful primary pump, a secondary pump for high water volumes, and a battery backup that keeps the system running during power outages. Together, this system ensures that water entering through the footing or wall joints is quickly collected and discharged before it can reach the living space.
Once the drainage and sump system were in place, we poured new concrete to finish the floor and allowed it to fully cure before returning to restore the walls. For the wall restoration, we installed EverLast Wall Panels from Basement Systems to replace the water-damaged drywall that had been removed.
EverLast Wall Panels are designed specifically for basement environments. Each panel is constructed with a rigid foam insulation core and a vinyl-clad cementitious surface, creating a completely inorganic system that won’t absorb water, support mold growth, or rot. The vinyl finish is both washable and paintable, allowing homeowners to customize the look while enjoying a bright, clean, and low-maintenance surface. The panels also provide added insulation value, impact resistance, and long-term durability that standard drywall can’t match.
By combining the reliability of the WaterGuard drainage system, the triple redundancy of the TripleSafe sump pump, and the resilience of EverLast Wall Panels, this Lexington basement is now fully waterproofed, visually refreshed, and protected for the long run. The homeowners can enjoy their finished basement with confidence knowing the system beneath and behind the walls will keep it dry and healthy year-round. P.S - Want proof our EverLast wall panels are completely waterproof? Back in April of 2025, our office in Frankfort flooded. The only part of the office below four feet, (the height of the flood) that did not need replaced was our very own EverLast wall system in our training room. In fact, it didn't even smell.
