Moisture Damaged Drywall Replaced in Georgetown, Kentucky
Challenge
A 100-year-old home in Georgetown, Kentucky, was leaking water into the basement, causing moisture and mold problems in a finished basement. The homeowner called The Basement Doctor of Central Kentucky to find a solution to this problem.
Solution
To keep this basement dry, we installed a complete waterproofing system designed to handle both groundwater and wall seepage.
The first step was installing WaterGuard, our sub-floor drainage channel. WaterGuard sits just below the edge of the floor and will collect water building up outside the foundation. Once inside the system, the water will flow to the sump pump, where it will be pumped safely out of the basement.
At the heart of the system is our SuperSump Premier Sump Pump. This pump comes with a 1/3 hp cast iron motor and several features that make it reliable and long-lasting. The CleanPump Stand will keep the pump elevated above sediment that may find its way inside the system. The SuperLiner - the tightly sealed lid - will keep water from evaporating back into the air while also blocking insects, odors, and debris. The airtight floor drain built into the lid will allow plumbing leaks to drain down without letting moisture escape back up. Finally, the WaterWatch Alarm will sound if the pump ever stops working, giving the homeowner an early warning before damage occurs.
For extra peace of mind, we attached an UltraSump Battery Backup. This backup pump will automatically take over if the power goes out or if the main pump fails, ensuring that water will always have a way out.
To replace the water damaged drywall, we also installed EverLast Wall Panels at the most vulnerable spots - 32 inches up from the base of the drywall to be exact. Unlike drywall, these panels are made from inorganic material that will not be damaged by water. They are covered in a washable, durable vinyl finish that not only looks great but also works seamlessly with the waterproofing system.
Together, these products will collect, control, and remove water before it has a chance to cause damage. The homeowner can now feel confident knowing their basement will stay dry and comfortable for years to come.
